Kosovo NOC marked the World Day of Sports and Environment with the aim of strengthening the role of women in sports
Through a great sporting event, the Kosovo Olympic Committee has marked today, June 5th - World Day of Sports and Environment
Unlike previous years, the purpose of this event was to promote empowerment and raise awareness on the role of women in sports, for which, in "Zahir Pajaziti" square in Prishtina were gathered numerous champions of team and individual sports, leading figures of the state, deputies, prominent figures of sport, of culture, and other.
What added to the magnificence of the event was the presence of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaqi. The former president of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, as well as senior officials of Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, and deputies of the Parliament of Kosovo attended the event.
President of KOC, Besim Hasani, spoke about the purpose of this day, with particular emphasis on the promotion of women in sport.
"The aim of the World Day of Sports and Environment is that all sport activities, including the various championships, to take place in a clean environment, therefore, we are gathered here today to mark this day with the sublime goal in promoting the women in sport. Community Sport is 100 percent mobilized, so that women are involved in every sport field," said President Hasani.
President Hashim Thaci encouraged women to engage in sports and walk the steps of Kosovo champions.
"As well as on this day, I encourage all Kosovo women to follow the example of Majlinda Kelmendi (Olympic champion in judo), Nora Gjakova (judoka), Distria Krasniqi (judoka) and many other athletes who have raised the flag of the state of Kosovo everywhere in the world by winning gold medals. In the 11 years of the Independence of Kosovo women have brought the greatest success to Kosovo," said President Hashim Thaci.
Later, a video was shown with the purpose of strengthening the role of women in sport, video which included the most successful women in all fields of sport.
At Zahir Pajaziti square, female athletes of various champion teams practiced the sports of football, handball, volleyball, boxing, karate, tennis, table tennis, chess, curling, badminton, etc.
Some of these sports were also practiced by President Hashim Thaçi, former President Atifete Jahjaga, Deputy Blerta Deliu - Kodra, and others.
At the end of the event, as the tradition has it, the KOC leaders, along with the other participants, headed to the University of Prishtina campus, where they planted the 2019 Olympic Tree, while the sports clubs planted another 50 trees.
