The Kosovo Olympic Committee has won one of the prestigious awards that the international organization “Peace and Sport” awards every year.

KOC won the award for the activity organized during the pandemic “April 6 - Initiative of the Year”, which involved about 5 thousand people, who with white paper created photos and videos doing sports while staying at home, with participants such as the Olympic champion Majlinda Kelmendi, the Minister of Sports, Vlora Dumoshi, etc.

Because of the Covid 19 pandemic, the awards ceremony was organized online and the award for KOC was presented by the Olympic champion “Athens 2014” in table tennis, South Korean Seung Ming Ryu, a silver medalist in London 2012 Games and bronze medalist in Beijing 2008.

The nominees for this 2020 edition of the April 6, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace were: the International Judo Federation, the Kosovo National Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports in Georgia, the Palestinian NGO Sports for Life, and the State Secretariat for Youth and Sports in the Portuguese Ministry of Education.

On behalf of the KOC, President Besim Hasani thanked the participants of the campaign, the Jury of “Peace and Sport” and all voters.

“It is an incredible honour to make such an impact on the lives of thousands, perhaps millions of people, by promoting peace and quality of life through sport. We feel very honoured and grateful to the jury and we bow down to voters around the globe who were inspired and who shared their support for peace through sport by voting for us. Kosovo humbly thanks you all, inspired by excellence and the prospect of a better world together! We’ve won this together!”, said Hasani.

Joel Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport, said: “Once again, the Kosovo National Olympic Committee has shown great creativity in marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. This is a real demonstration of the unifying power of sport by mobilizing a large part of Kosovan society. I warmly congratulate them on their victory!”
